From October 21 to 25, 2024, Una EUROPA Staff Week took place in Krakow, Poland, hosted by Jagiellonian University. Representatives from Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University actively participated, including the Head of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Prof. Mariia Bailiak, and the Head of the Records and Document Control Department, Tetiana Korniienko. The event’s theme focused on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) for professional development within European universities.
During the five-day event, participants explored best practices in implementing AI in university administration, engaged in panel discussions and workshops covering legal aspects of AI, and considered its future role in digital governance. On the first day, attendees introduced themselves and shared their AI skills and practices, participated in a Polish language lesson, and got to know each other through a team-based pub quiz. Over the following days, panel discussions featured topics on AI governance within European universities, challenges in AI regulation, and participants shared personal stories and solutions for integrating new technologies in education. Practical workshops on October 24 and 25 provided hands-on experience for participants to implement AI knowledge in their work. In particular, attendees were introduced to the text-based capabilities of ChatGPT and various image creation and editing tools. The cultural program included guided tours of the Jagiellonian University Museum and Library.
The format of Una Europa Staff Week was initiated as part of the 1Europe project and was developed to empower staff through the Una.Futura project.
The event brought together 53 participants from universities across 12 European countries (Poland, Finland, France, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Ukraine). Ukraine was represented by staff from Odesa National University named after I. I. Mechnikov, Kharkiv National Medical University, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, and Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University. Additionally, 10 experts from alliance countries led masterclasses and panel discussions on topics related to AI and its application in professional development.
Una EUROPA Staff Week became a valuable platform for exchanging experiences and building international connections among European universities, supporting the development of innovative approaches within the professional and academic environment.
This event enabled the staff members from Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University to expand their knowledge in the field of AI and discuss prospects for its integration into the work of Ukrainian higher education institutions.
